Waterproof Spirit

This past week the National Capital Region and surrounding provinces were ravaged by monsoon rains that caused major flooding throughout much of the area. To this day, the floodwater has not receded in many areas. 

It is very heartening that so many Filipinos rallied forth to help their countrymen...and so quickly at that! Some carrying out search and rescue missions; others to donate cash and kind; or to volunteer their time to collect, sort, pack, and deliver relief goods for distribution. Young and old chipped in to do whatever they could: like the little boy who asked that well-wishers to pledge cash for the flood victims instead of giving him toys and other gifts for his birthday; or the prisoners who opted to donate their rationed meals for a day.

There is still plenty of good in the world, ...in the Philippines.

And as someone on Facebook said, the spirit of the Filipino people is waterproof!
